This will work on multiple applications, however this will not work on your distributor.

Ive got twin Mercruisers, Boats a 1987 assume engines are close to that the serial numbers are: 65531 and 65489. would like to do away with points and concert to electronic ignition. is pn 18-5296 the correct kit? thanks Len.?

The only way that Sierra could cross reference and check if this kit would work is by having your distributor number.
