Failed on first trip.
by Denis from Baton Rouge, Louisiana on May 03, 2015
I purchased the solenoid in Sept 2014. On first trip May 2015 solenoid failed with contact welded closed. Worked fine for sever hours of fishing prior to failing. Starter would not shut off with key out. Had to disconnect wiring to shut it off.

Dead on arrival
by Michael from Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 25, 2013
After arriving a few days late, solenoid was non functional. I called to try and get a quick exchange, only to be told there was no easy way to do this. Instead of trying to jump through hoops, I returned it for a refund and purchased it elsewhere. It's now a month later I still have not been refunded. I can't see doing business with iboats again, which is a shame because the forums are great.

Worked less than 1 year, 2 uses.
by Ryan from Bountiful, Utah on November 23, 2015
I previously reviewed this as 4 stars, as it worked perfectly when installed. It worked for the first two trips out. On the third trip, just days before the 1 year anniversary of my order of the solenoid, it quit working. It is getting the full 12 volts to is, the circuit is complete, the choke linkage moves freely, but it won't even begin to pull on the plunger. Even if I push the plunger partway into the solenoid as someone activates the voltage to it, there is no activation at all. Appears to be completely dead. Argh. And planning a cold-weather trip this weekend when I'm really needing the choke. Guess I'll pull the cowling off each time I need to start, and actuate it manually. Frustrating it went out so quickly.

Q:
How do I figure out which terminal goes to ignition and which goes to the starter? Like wise how do I know which wide of the bigger bolts goes to battery?
A:
You will need to refer to your repair manual or contact a local dealer. Here is the repair/service manuals we offer: http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Motor-Repair-Manuals/dm/view_id.1

Q:
Will this fit a 1989 50hp force?
A:
This does not cross reference with your OEM number, so it will not work. Your OEM number is 89-817760A2.

Q:
How far should it move when choke is engaged?
A:
According to Arco, there is no set measurement in this area. It is purely circumstantial, based on adjustments. You may want to consult with a Mercury technician.

Q:
On a mercury outboard solenoid does it matter which side is ground?
A:
Sierra confirms you will need to refer to your wiring diagram to be sure. That information is not provided.
