Video Transcript

Today we are installing the SESport 400 on a Contender with twin 250 Mercuries.

First thing you want to do is remove the trim cover, the top piece. There's a little lip that's going to slide forward.

So with the rubbing alcohol you want to clean real good where the disk-grips are going to go. So the most important part to be clean is the bottom of the cavitation plate on both sides, and then it also grips on the top sides as well.

Once you determine the proper position for the disk-grips, some of the packages will include a blue sticky. Your package may have a red sticky, and these are going to go right on top of the cavitation plate, right above where the disk-grips go, and that's going to stick to the top of the foil. And then of course before you're ready to put the hydrofoil on, go ahead and remove the 3M, it'll either be 3M paper or just regular plying paper.

There are two sizes of bolts. The longer ones are for the aft end, the wider end of the hydrofoil. On the aft end you get these long ones, and the short ones are for the forward end.

Line up the hole, drop it straight in, see how there's a little lip, it's raised up, so you can turn the top of the bolt until it drops straight down and flush with the top of the D washer.

Slide the disk grip up through the hole, hold the top of the bolt. With your finger, slide the large washer on first, now here's the smaller washer, and then last is the lock nut. Of course the rounded part of the lock-nut goes on the bottom, just tighten it up, finger tight. You'll feel the plastic lock threads get secure.

So after you get all four disk-grips on, we're going to tighten them up in an alternating pattern, and we want to tighten these down very snug.

As you're tightening, you'll start to see the rubber of the disk-grip to compress. That's what you want. You want the rubber to compress and even squeeze out a little bit from the cavitation plate, even up to an eighth of an inch, because that's what's going to hold secure. So tighten it down snug and then we'll come back and do a little bit more tightening after we tighten it in an equal manner.

So they're squeezed out nice right there, squeezed out nice there, after you finish, do a tug. That's not going anywhere. That is rock solid.

Trim plate, phillips screwdriver, stainless phillips screw. You want to slide the trim plate all the way forward, so you're pushing down and sliding aft at the same time, pushing down and sliding aft. Phillips screw, just line it up.

That's it, very simple, about a ten minute installation, rock solid fit, one more to go, five to ten minutes, and we're off boating. Hope you enjoy!

Absolute best single expenditure I've made to improve my boats performance
by Bobby from Bristol, Tennessee on September 06, 2015
I purchased this SE Sport 300 Hydrofoil. I chose the direct bolting option rather than using the "sport clip" which permits installation without drilling, it is being returned to iboats unused. I used the included template to mark and drill holes thru the cavitation plate. I had to remove the propeller to attain the proper angle for drilling from the bottom up. Overall an easy process requiring only tape, drill, drill bit, a center punch and small hammer to mark the exact spot and keep the drill bit centered, and small socket wrench and phillips screwdriver. Working slowly and cautiously it took about an hour to install. Performance wise the improvement was immediately noticable. I installed the hydrofoil on an Aquatron 18' open bowel sport boat with Mercruiser 4.3L V-6 sterndrive. The boat attains plane a little bit quicker. The big noticable change is that I am now able to cruise much smoother with almost no proposing. Rough or smooth water. I can run at or near full throttle maintaining a smooth ride, something I could not do before the hydrofoil. Crossing other boats wakes used to upset my boat and set to porposing (bow bouncing) so bad I had to slow way down. Amazingly now I motor on with no significant trouble. When rough water or wakes do set it to bouncing I just trim it in a little-it settles down immediately and I trim back out and keep on going. I am so impressed with the performance of the hydrofoil! I would buy it again and again. It truly changed the performance characteristics of my boat! Great product, great iboats price including shipping.

Best Add-on for the money
by Michael from Port Orchard, Washington on July 31, 2015
Overall I think this is the best thing I could have done to improve both efficiency and handling over all speed ranges. Have it mounted on a '79 Merc 800 (80hp) 2-stroke driving a 16' Fiberform runabout. Even easing the power up slowly the boat only pitches about 2/3rds of what it did originally, and at full power it just jumps right up on plane within a few seconds. Rough water handling has improved tremendously. Slow speed handling has improved also. The bow used to wander a lot. There is now far less wheel movement required to keep on course. The boat stays on plane at lower rpm's (to about 3100), but is also quite comfortable at 3800. Mileage has increased noticeably at speed. It's not pushing uphill nearly as much. I did not use the provided template for drilling the mounted holes. I put the hydrofoil where it needed to be and clamped to the cavitation plate. Then I used a drill the same size as the clearance holes to spot drill locations, just enough to leave a 1/4 inch or so diameter mark. Drill through 1/4 inch (or Ltrs -E- or -F-) diameter at those locations and mount it. Use the rubber washers between the cavitation plate and the hydrofoil. The thicker ones to the rear. Go ahead and get this one done. You will notice the difference immediately.

by Ky from Kansas City, Missouri on August 07, 2014
This really helped reduce porpoising with my runabout. We mostly tube and ski so getting on plane faster is a high priority and this SE 300 hydrofoil helped with that. The install wasn't too difficult but I did have to remove the prop to drill holes for the bolts. Be sure to use a titanium drill bit for the holes.

Hydrofoil on 18' ProTracker
by Robert from Springfield, Tennessee on January 05, 2014
Was difficult to plane out without hitting higher speeds with my 60hp Merc but the hydrofoil helps it plane much quicker and maintain even at lower speeds. That's what I had hoped for. Didn't notice any change in steering or handling but that wasn't a problem anyway. Very satisfied with the product.

Works as Advertised
by Jason from Fairborn, Ohio on June 13, 2013
I purchased this at the beginning of the boating season for a newer boat we had just purchased. 1998 Bayliner open bow with 4.3l V6 engine. I had the boat out a few times prior to installing this hydrafoil. It plained out fine before but man what a diference with the hydrafoil. The boat gets on plane much faster now, like about 3 seconds. It is easier to manuver with skiers and tubers. I can't say the top end speed increased. The install was very easy. Took about 30 minutes. Just drilled the holes and installed. The template is helpful. I have had it out several times since. Some folks mentioned on here about losing their hydrafoil. They must have done something wrong when they installed it. Mine is showing no signs of comming off at all. not even a concern. Great product for the price. I will be adding some smart tabs next, not to help it plane out, just to help stabilize the boat in choppy water.

Works Better than Sting Ray Classic
by John from Apex, North Carolina on June 12, 2012
I bought a used 1990 Javelin 378 Fish and Ski boat with a 150 Johnson GT on it. The motor had a Sting Ray Classic hydrofoil on it when I bought it. Hole shot was good, but the boat still porpoised some and turned funny at speed. I decided to try the SE Sport 300 and I am glad I did! Hole shot is still good but steering at all speeds is better with the SE. Top speed also picked up 1 to 2 MPH with the SE. An added plus was the bolt pattern was exactly the same so I did not have to drill any more holes!

Excelent product
by Stephan from Portage, Michigan on June 02, 2013
I replaced a stingray with this SE Sport 300 and I couldn't be happier with the results. I have a Rinker Captiva 190 with a Mercruiser 4.3L and it took a while for the boat to reach plane with the stingray. After putting this hydrofoil on my boat goes to plane almost instantly and I can hold plane at much slower speeds which is excellent for pulling the kids on the tubes. I will definitely suggest this product to all my friends.

Easy installation,
by Elaine from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 31, 2013
The installation was easy the directions were clear and all went well. Haven't really run it out on the water enough to tell what the long term effects will be. It did seem to help get on plane faster but that changed as the load changed and without power tilt/trim it is difficult to adjust on the fly.

well made
by Jerrad from Valentine, Nebraska on May 07, 2013
Replaced old hydrofoil due to the wings being bent from backing into objects. Holes lined up without having to re-drill. Used the boat 3 times with this product and have no complaints. The giant roster tail that my old one kicked up is now gone which was probably due to something not running true in the water. The motor wake is all nice and smooth now (nothing dragging to cause roster tail). The boat also now gets up on plane nicely and handles turns well without loosing water around the prop, causing the engine to rev which was an issue before. This is a well made product and sturdy in construction.

It's hard to believe this device could improve performance so much. It works exactly as advertized by cutting Plane time, improving steering at low speeds, and greatly reducing dolphin effect and buffeting in rough water. I highly recommend it if you experience any of these issues!

SE 300 Sport
by John from Poulsbo, Washington on October 20, 2012
Installation was pretty staight forward. The use of a grinder is not necessary to fit the hydrofoil. A small round file and a flat file do the job safely without removing to much product. Performance is astounding. My 16.5 foot center console took forever to plane and needed a lot of throttle to stay on plane. Now it is on plane in seconds and I can stay on plane at much lower and comfortable speeds. I don't know if I lost any top end because I don't run hard. Porpoising is now gone. I would recommend this product. I have had doel fins on my last two boats and this product is more effective.

by Wayne from Rotonda West, Florida on July 16, 2011
Install was very easy. Template was a big help. I was just out for the first time with the hydrofoil installed. I really did not notice the hydrofoil making a big difference. The nose went up and still took a little while for it to come down. I thought it would be quicker with the hydrofoil but not really a noticeable difference. Maybe the more i use it the more i will notice the difference.I now have 4 holes in the back plate of my motor so i will keep it on and get some use out of it.

This is the best money I've ever spent on my boat! 28' Rinker with a single 350 with a bravo 2 drive. I had to run this boat at 3800 rpm to stay on plane. After installing this hydrofoil I can stay on plane at 3200 rpm! This will save a lot on fuel. I didn't have a problem before with getting up on plane but I can tell it gets out of the water even faster now. Would definitely recommend this to a friend.

SE Sport 400 hydrofoil
by John from Brazoria, Texas on July 12, 2014
Installed the SE Sport 400 Hydrofoil on my 40 h.p. Yamaha. 20 minutes max.I attached it with no drilling but did come down a little one of the stainless bolts breaking it.Thank goodness it came with an x-tra.I took it out for a trial run and wah-lah.It does what it says it does.Trimming my motor all the way down it gets up on plane in no time.I did lose a little top end speed,(4 m.p.h.)but it's worth it to me.I fish shallow bays and getting up quick is what it's about. I would recommend this product to anyone needeing to get on plane quick.

Q:
Will se sport 400 fit volvo 270 outdrive 2010?
A:
It will as long as it fits the specifications listed as it being 40+ HP engine.

Q:
Will it work on 16 foot pontoon with a 30 hp outboard ?
A:
Yes. This is a universal design that will work for most motor applications between 8 and 40 horsepower.

Q:
Will it work on 150 hp Mercury?
A:
No, this will not work for a 150hp. This part is rated for 8-40hp. The correct one for 150hp would be 71614.

Q:
I don't have a problem with getting on plane but do have a problem with excess water spray. Motor is already mounted as high on transom as possible. Will SE Sport 300 help eliminate excess spray?
A:
Hydrofoil is not designed to do that. You may just get more water coming back into the boat. You will probably want to contact a technician for best results. You can look into a trim tab, but typically excessive water spray is a result of where motor is mounted.

Q:
I have a 23' Sea ray cruiser with a 5.7 L V8 and an Alpha One/Gen One sterndrive. Is the SE Sport 300 recomended for my boat and will it fit my sterndrive. Thanks, Jim?
A:
It will fit all sizes that have a cavitation plate larger than 5 inches wide, usually 40 horse power and up.

Q:
I have a 2015 - Four Winns Horizon w/ Volvo Penta IO -200 HP. Boat tends to porpoise, so I need to be trimmed down all the way. Looking to get a bit more top end speed and higher RPM's by being able to trim up a bit more. Engine is rated for 4200 - 4600 RPM. Only getting to 3800 - 3900 now. No problem planing off as it is now. Will the SE 400 help ?
A:
It sounds like you need a different size pitch, you change your pitch to adjust the RPM's. Please call in with your engine manufacturer, horse power, year and what size pitch your currently using and we can assist you find the best prop to get the performance your looking for.

Q:
Would the SE 200 fit a Yamaha 8 HP 2 strokes?
A:
It will fit all outboards smaller than 40 HP except Mercury 40, 50, and 60 four strokes. There are some smaller outboards (down to 4 HP) that it will fit as well.

Q:
WILL THIS STOP MY 14 FT ALUMINUM BOAT WITH A 15 HP EVENRUDE FROM FROM PLOWING ? THE BOW STAYS WAY UP WHEN I AM THE ONLY ONE IN THE BOAT, WHICH MAKES IT HEAVY IN THE STERN.?
A:
This will help if you don't have one. These are designed to help the boat plane quicker. Crescent shaped surface quickly funnels water for more thrust-cutting planing time for the quickest hole shot.

Q:
Will this fit a 1981 suzuki dt40?
A:
Yes, our sources indicate that this would work for your application, primarily since it covers between 8 and 40 horsepower engines.
