Mercruiser v6 gimbal bearing
by Cynthia from Bartlett, Tennessee on June 10, 2014
If when running you hear a grinding sound, check this bearing. Also while you have outdrive apart check your bellows to make sure no cracks.

1988 OMC King Cobra gimbal bearing
by David from North Liberty, Iowa on July 19, 2012
The gimbal bearing fit fine. Removal was a little more challenging. Went to Autozone and got a loaner bearing puller and slide hammer which worked well. An alignment tool is necessary to loosen the new bearing and properly align the shaft. The Sierra gasket set gets a thumbs down for the gimbal bearing 'o' rings that go on the shaft. They were slightly over sized and made installation of the outdrive impossible. Bought an OEM gasket kit and installed with 'o' rings with oil as shown in manual and had no problems replacing drive with one person and no hoist.

Made on Friday at 4:00pm
by Jeff from Eden Prairie, Minnesota on April 26, 2012
well someones having a bad day or bad week or bad month, I have ordered and returned 2 of these in a row because of poor manufacturing, bearing is off center, and misaligned, apparently who ever is stamping these out, is allowed to drink beer on lunch hour, Or Sierra has no quality control program. ON both bearings I received it is so misaligned you can see it plain as day one side of the insert is about 0.1 inches offset from the other side. In other words if you spin it around it will wobble about 0.100 inches,

quality bearing
by Bryan from Big Lake, Minnesota on April 17, 2011
Matched up to the one I took out of my alpha one, went in with no issues. Just remember to have a decent slide hammer or removal tool as the old one came out hard. There is also a seal behind this bearing you may want to replace at the same time. iboats rocks, shipping is very fast. Ordered on a Wednesday and delivered here in Minnesota on Friday with standard shipping.

Q:
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEARING 18-2100 AND BEARING 18-21001?
A:
18-2100 is greasable and the 18-21001 is non-greasable. They will work with different engines as well. We will need to know your application to see if it will work for you.

Q:
I have a 1990 4.3L Mercruiser Alph one. Which is the correct Gimble bearing for my boat? Also, do you sell a tool to remove the old bearing?
A:
You either need the 18-2100 or 18-21001. The 18-2100 is greaseable and the 18-21001 is not. So it will depend on what you need. The puller is part number 18-79820, but we do not list it. We can inquire about a special order. Just contact us at the number at the top of the page.
