Replacing coils as preventative maintenance
by Tim from Winston Salem, North Carolina on June 15, 2016
Good product, I bought and replaced all 6 for my 30 yr old Mercury XR2 Blackmax, as preventative maintenance. NO instructions included so I don't know what the extra cylinder included was for. I also purchased the ignition wire set 18-5225 and made my own plug wires. My engine runs great as it did before. I did keep the old original coils just in case. Fast service and convenient shopping for me.

by George from Windsor, Colorado on September 30, 2015
Wish it had solved my problematic engine. Now I have another spare part. Another post said his did not come with the nuts for the screw terminals. Mine did come with them?

i ordered coils three times from two other suppliers. They arrived in bubble envelopes and the parts were broken. Not so here! Arrived quickly, well packed and got my big old mercury screaming again! Iboats and only iboats.

by Johnna from Burleson, Texas on May 09, 2015
I will never use another boat supply company as long as iboats is around. I'm an online buyer and the website design is flawless please don't change anything unless it's adding even more details about the part your looking for

Disappointed
by David from Dighton, Kansas on June 07, 2013
I got the new coil and the threads were different than the original coil. I live in a small town and there was no place open to get new nuts so I tried using the old ones anyway, broke one of the terminals off. My fault, shouldn't have tried it. It would be nice to send new nuts if the threads are different.

A:
I don't cross reference that number. We only cross reference the following OEM numbers: 339-832757L4, 339-832757A4, 339-832757B4, 339-7370B13, 339-7370A13. If you need further assistance give us a call at 1-800-914-1123.

Q:
I have a 1980-82 70hp mercury SN 5754491. Are these the correct coils?
A:
Yes this is the correct coil for your motor.

A:
No this will not work with your motor. Your OEM number is 336-4409A4.

Q:

What is the ohms reading on a new coil mine has 240ohms and the old one i'm replacing is 840ohms and the shop manual states the reading should be 800-1000ohms so is my new one bad?
A:
Yes if it's reading outside that then you might have a defective coil.

Q:
What is that little cylinder that comes with the coil?
A:
Sierra said that depending on the application you might need to use it. You would take off the housing of the ignition coil and put it in there with a screw though it. They didn't have a name for it though.
