Standard Pilot Chair 015 with Cushions, Mounting Plate, 12-18" Adjustable Pedestal and Seat Spider - Wise Boat Seats

First, the seat. The mounting plate under the seat which attaches it to the pedestal is centered under the seat, but the majority of the weight of the person sitting in the seat is well aft of center. If you were to sit in the seat with the pedestal not bolted to the deck, you would fall over backwards. Having the weight this far off-center puts a real strain on the pedestal and it's mounting. Unfortunately, the pedestals are a bit flimsy and do not like the weight so far off-center. It's a decent seat, once you fabricate a new mounting plate to center the weight on the mount Second, the pedestal. I am even more disappointed with the pedestal than the seat mounting. It's adjustable from 12 inches to 18 inches and I assume the boaters who buy this get the adjustable pedestal so they can extend it all the way up so they can see forward out the windshield and then collapse it back to the 12 inch height so it's suitable for on deck use when swiveled aft. The problem is when the pedestal is extended all the way, as it would be when the boat is in motion, it flops around way too much. The upper tube which moves inside the lower tube is a much smaller diameter than the lower tube . . . . there is way too much slop between the two tubes. It *looks like* it was designed to have a plastic collar between the two tubes to take up the slack and prevent the top tube from flopping around, but no such collar came with the pair of seats and pedestals I bought If you want a seat which feels secure when the boat is in motion with the pedestals extended, these seats and pedestals are not for you - You won't be happy with them.
