Mercury Starters

Bendix sticks and will not engage about 1/2 of the time necessitating having to manually break it free. May loosen up in time but it is very discomforting needing to take the cowl off the motor while floating.

Originally I was going to replace with OEM starter but decided to go with this Sierra starter instead. Saved $100.00. Once received in the mail, I had the old one replaced within 20 minutes. Fit perfectly and works just as it should in my 1995 mercury XR6.

I wrote a review last week about a couple of returns, not surprised I haven't heard back.

Besides the starter that didn't fit (too tall), I also had to return a solenoid that didn't fit (mounting plate too wide). Why is it so hard to match a part to a serial #? Now I am out almost $25.00 for return shipping!

I received the starter today, installed it and it works just fine. Hopefully it lasts a long time.

I have not received it. I was supposed to be here two weeks ago. I was told it would be shipped by DHL from your customs agent, but they sent it Canada Post, who were having a strike. Not very good since I paid over $50 for shipping

I was experiencing an intermittent problem starting my 1987 Mercury 2-stroke 115 HP outboard motor. This engine is original equipment on my Alumaweld river boat of the same vintage. With the approach of salmon season, I wanted to be confident I could get the main motor started quickly and reliably when in river currents. I was surprised that I was able to find several different starter motors currently being manufactured, that fit my Merc. Although it was more expensive than the cheapest make on the market, I elected to purchase the Arco starter because of some positive reviews of the company. I also chose to replace the solenoid at the same time, though the two items are separate, and made by different companies. I installed both these parts myself. The straight-6 outboard is easy to work on, and both the removal and installation went smoothly. Starter motor fit perfectly in the mounts. Tested it out first on a local lake. Each time, the Mercury 115 started up more quickly, and I have not encountered any problems since, on subsequent river trips. Seems the new starter motor and solenoid solved the problems I was having. Time will tell, on the motors longevity, but for now I am very happy with it. BTW, the starter I took out was the original and bears a Mercury stamp. I intend to get it rebuilt, and keep as a spare. The install was easy enough that I could imagine doing it while afloat if need arose. Dave Cooper

The starter was great,fit and works fine. The shipping out of the warehouse was slow,8 days,but once it was on route it went fast. over all a good product.

Installed on a 2004 mercury 240 efi that was in a 2004 sugar sand 18 jet boat. Exact replacement fit , easy install. Works great. I recommend this product.
