Magnesium is typically used for fresh water only, but aluminum can work. You can install this on your outdrive yes.

The zinc anode is for salt water use. You will want part # 18-6241 or part # CM31640M. These are magnesium and are for fresh water use.

Length: 7", Diameter: 6-1/2", Width: 6", Height: 3-1/2". We can only cross reference OEM number so we would need serial number to access parts diagram. This should work if you have the Alpha Outdrive. Contact us at the number at the top of the page and we can look into it further if needed.

Hi Andrew- This Sierra trim tab anode will work for the 1997 40 hp Force outboard engine.

This particular trim tab is best for Honda/Mercury applications. We unfortunately do not currently have anything that will match your Johnson application.
