NGK DCPR8E Spark Plug
This item is found in the following Product Families
NGK spark plugs are designed to operate over a much wider heat range than ordinary plugs. Each NGK features high alumina ceramics for better heat transfer and electrical insulation. Patented triple gasket sealing process eliminates the possibility of combustion gas leakage. * They are resistant to carbon buildup and pre-ignition * Longer insulator nose prevents fouling and misfiring * Solid copper core and nickel-tipped electrode provide a longer plug life.
Tech Video: Spark Plug Heat Ranges
Here is a great video that talks about the different heat ranges in regards to choosing the the best spark park for your application.... read more
Video Transcript
Why there are different heat ranges? It is a misconception that spark plugs create heat, this is not true. A function of the spark plug is a channel heat away from the tip of the spark plug. The length of the insulator mass determines the speed at which this is done.
A spark plug with a longer insulator mass is considered a hot heat range while shorter insulator mass is considered a cool type heat range. Selecting the correct spark plug heat range will ensure that the spark plug will reach a high enough temperature to keep the insulator mass clean. Too warm of a heat range can lead to pre-ignition or engine knocking. Too cool of a heat range can result in fuel or carbon fouling.

Q:
Is this the correct spark plug for my 3.0l mercruiser year 2001?
A:
No, as long as your serial number is after 0L010042 you need BPR6EFS. If it is to 0F353100 you need BR6FS.
