Designed to meet EPA and California Air Resources Board regulations, the Attwood Portable Fuel Tank is an ideal choice for small outboards. This fuel tank is constructed of multi-layer co-extruded HDPE and EVOH for durability. The tank has an automatic fuel cap that eliminates the use of manual vents and provides proper supply of fuel. The cap uses Autoflow Technology that improves engine performance, reduces fuel wastage and prevents entry of water into the tank.

  • Multi-layer co-extruded HDPE and EVOH construction
  • Automatic vacuum valve ensures proper fuel flow
  • Low permeation tank

Integrated with the VaporBar technology, this tank saves a lot of gas and money by reducing fuel evaporation and decreasing emission of harmful hydrocarbons.

Features of Attwood Portable Fuel Tanks:

  • Perfect for use with small outboards
  • Automatic vacuum valve ensures proper fuel flow
  • Low permeation tank eliminates fuel evaporation and loss
  • Compatible with 1/4" NPT fuel fittings
  • Ethanol and alcohol compatible
  • For use with Attwood fuel kits
  • Requires Attwood fuel demand valve
  • EPA & Carb certified

Video Transcript

Attwood has designed portable fuel system components that help manage the pressure buildup inherent in today’s EPA compliant fuel systems. This comprehensive tank to engine solution with fuel tank, universal spray less connector, fuel demand valve, primer bulb and fuel line kit ensures EPA compliance and proper engine performance.

EPA compliant fuel systems are now sealed to prevent vapor emissions. As a result pressure can buildup in the tank and cause it to expand. Attwood’s portable fuel tanks use low permeation, automotive grade materials and multilayer construction that withstand the expansion from pressure buildup as well as temperature extremes and abuse.

An automatic vacuum valve in the cap ensures proper fuel flow and eliminates the need for a manual vent. To illustrate the performance, this demonstration shows an Attwood tank expanding at various pressure levels. Clearly Attwood tanks can safely handle the inevitable pressure buildup in today’s sealed portable fuel systems. In fact during testing our tanks maintain their stability up to 20 psi. There may be times when it’s necessary to remove the cap while the tank is under pressure. This is done safely by unscrewing the cap one full turn to relieve the pressure and then waiting five seconds before completely removing the cap from the tank.

Put your mind at ease and enjoy your time on the water with Attwood’s complete line of EPA certified portable fuel system components.

Perfect for my use - but be careful
by George from East Peoria, Illinois on October 29, 2015
I purchased this tank for use while fogging my fuel injected Mercruiser per the manufacturer's recommendations. The tank is perfect for that use. However, although no fault of Attwood, the EPA required low emissions design is a joke and can be dangerous if the tank is not properly sealed. I did not have a fuel hose with shut-off connected to the tank when I first placed gasoline in the tank. Although I placed only 2.5 gallons of gas into the tank (on a cool day), fuel started spewing out the fitting about 30 seconds after tightening the fill cap. I quickly loosened the fill cap to relieve what little pressure had built up. My guess is that the few ounces of fuel that spilled out resulted in a lot more gasoline vapor emissions than would ever have been released from an old style tank. Also this could have been disastrous had the fuel leak begun after I placed the tank in the trunk of my car and driven off. I am an environmental engineer and am frequently amazed how idiotic some of the EPA's rules are, particularly those regarding fuel emissions.

Good buy right size
by Chris from Novato, California on October 26, 2016
This was the perfect size for my klamath boat. One thing that should come with this is the vented cap..you have to buy seperate. Otherwise, this is great.

These suck!
by Kent from Boise, Idaho on August 07, 2014
Don't care for the EPA mandated cap at all! The old style are much easier to vent prior to and during use. These create way too much vacuum in the tank during use and make the fuel pump work harder! If you buy one, I suggest getting a manually vented cap for it, too.

Overall quality
by Michael from Palm Coast, Florida on March 24, 2012
Meets most expectations, but is limited by marginal quality of gauge and supply feed.

Q:
Is this tank appropriate for my 8hp Honda (1995 vintage)?
A:
Yes you can use it for that, but you will need a Honda fuel line kit and fitting. Part numbers are 93806HUS7 and 8838US6.

Q:
Could you tell me the height of the 3 ga fuel tank?
A:
The dimensions are as follows: Length: 16.6"; Width: 11.45"; Height: 7.3"

Q:
Can this fuel tank be adapted to a Honda motor?
A:
Yes it can. You can order 93806HUS7 for the correct fuel line.

Q:
How can I use this tank as an emergency fuel spare tank for an M2 EFI Mercruiser 240 2-Cycle on a SeaDoo Challenger X X20 with an inboard permanent fuel tank? Can I buy a quick connect kit? Is it safe to hand pump fuel into the exterior opening of the gas cap of the permanent tank in the event you find yourself stranded low on fuel if a marina is closed, for example?
A:
We recommend that you contact your local dealer to better meet your immediate needs based on a non stock fuel system.
