Mariner Solenoids

Really wish I would have read the reviews here before I installed the part. I had the issue of the solenoid post with the loose mounting nut on one of the small contacts. I used a small wrench and applied "snug" pressure. The post turned 1/2 a rotation and that was enough to break it inside. If I had known I would have checked the base nut before putting on the wires and snugging the lock nut. The other three posts we fine. Solenoid quality seems good but watch that the posts are tight before installing.

Be careful! The part I received was manufactured wrong. The electrical contacts were permanently closed resulting in the starter operating regardless of the key position. It is not my key switch! I disconnected the solenoid coil wire (comes from the key switch) and the starter still continued to operate. I measured 0 ohms with the part removed across the large posts that are wired to the starter. I disassembled the part and discovered the contacts are permanently closed due to wrong sized parts.

Worked as expected

While installing the wire to the left-side terminal, using a 1/2 rachet box wrench, the plastic broke all around the solenoid.I don't believe the lock washer was even seated and I was only applying two finger pressure to the wrench. when I removed the solenoid from the engine the solenoid fell apart completely. Return authorized and hoping the response is not "installer failure" as I have been working on machines for 41 years.

I hooked this solenoid up to my 1986 Evenrude XP150 and it worked great for maybe 10 times than it started running the starter continuously. I was told by two different outboard mechanics that I had a bad solenoid. Is there a better more heavy duty solenoid available? Not happy!

Fired up right away but then stuck, will contact Iboats about getting a different brand, bad thing is I did not get time to work on it till I was ready to go boating.

The help getting the right part was excellent. The part arrived on time and it was the correct part. iboats saved me about $24.00 from what a dealer was charging. Installed the solenoid and it worked perfectly.

Installed new solenoid with no problems. Diameter slightly smaller than original but works fine.
